Blessing Bags - How YOU Can Truly Help

So, I've had a LOT of people reach out to me since I started the website and Facebook pages asking how they can help provide to those in need without giving cash.

Someone told me that I should start a #blessingbag program here in the Roanoke Valley.

So, what is a blessing bag?

Well, its simple and pretty smart really and anyone can make them at home.

A quart sized bag filled with contents that someone might need. These bags might contain some of
the following:

  • small bags of chips
  • granola bar (or hard to melt candy)
  • first aid kit with band-aids and supplies
  • tampon for women
  • tooth paste and tooth brush or dental floss
  • hard candy
  • $5 gift card to a fast food restaurant
  • pair of glove or hat (winter)
  • Aspirin or similar
  • Information with the various organizations that can help them
  • NO ACTUAL CASH IN THE BAGS
Each bag has an approximate value of about $8-10 give or take, depending on the time of year.

My goal is to make about 25 of these a month if not more. If you would like to help out, you can donate by purchasing some items at a local department store, you can message me and I can meet you somewhere in Roanoke to get them.

YOU can also make these bags yourself and hand them out. A REAL PERSON IN NEED WILL GLADLY ACCEPT THEM.

These bags are coming out of my personal funds and I'm using whatever ad money that is generated to help with purchasing the various items.

Go Fund Me Page (Updated June 2017)

Over the last few months I have been asking members to donate to this group driven program rather than funding it myself.

The idea is to raise just $100 a month to cover the cost of roughly 10-12 bags to be given out here in the Roanoke Valley. I came up with a $1200 GFM page which is enough to cover the program for 12 months.

If there is no cash for the program, then we will do it as donations do come in, however I'm asking our FB group members to help with just a couple of bucks if they can spare it. At least you will know that the cash will not go to something like booze, drugs or a lifestyle.

If you would like to help, feel free to message me on our Facebook group or if you want to donate financially, you can visit the Blessing Bag Program page here.
